found a rip off?

Hello to everyone in interweb land. Michael Bolton here introducing my new blog dedicated to my career of using other people's artistic ability to make money. In a 'wink wink' to SNL's great job of making fun of me, the first example of ripping them off will be in the blog title. They did a great sketch ripping me off (well, okay, its a parody of me really) in the act of Boltonizing someone else's work.

So if you see something ripped off, send it to along and I'll add it to the blog for all to see. Try to send a link to the ripper and the rippe. To get things started I'll post a famous rip off and a recent one I've seen.

Famous: Nearly everyone knows the most famous rip off artist, perhaps of all time, Rob Van Winkle. AKA, Vanilla Ice. He was made even more famous by denying he plagiarized Ice Ice Baby from Queen/Bowie's collaboration Under Pressure claiming that the hi hat made it a totally different song.

Rip off: Ice Ice Baby - Vanilla Ice

Ripped Off: Under Pressure - Queen/Bowie

Recently an eggs "get crackin'"ad has a riff that has only slight changes to the drum beat/rythm from the Fugazi song Waiting Room. Is it a rip off? It sounds pretty close to me, and as you know, I'm an expert at using other people's material. Decide for yourself.

Ripper: Eggs.ca ad http://eggs.ca/energy/ads.asp (power walking ad)

Rippee: Fugazi - Waiting Room

Till next time... send me your own examples.

Michael Bolton.
